Streets, residential areas and public offices across the capital are adorned with national flags, banners and posters as Hà Nội prepares for the upcoming National Assembly and People’s Council elections.
HÀ NỘI From bustling urban neighbourhoods and remote mountain villages to coastal communities and far-flung islands, voters across Việt Nam went to the polls on March 15 to elect deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–31 term.
As tens of millions of voters took part in the nationwide election, they demonstrated public trust, civic responsibility and the strength of national unity. This shared commitment provides an important foundation for realising the aspiration to build a strong and prosperous Việt Nam.

Over the past 80 years, each election has marked an important milestone in the country’s political life and reflected a particular stage of Việt Nam’s development, from national resistance and reconstruction to renewal, international integration and national development and defence.
Throughout that journey, every ballot has carried profound significance as a symbol of the people’s right to mastery, their trust in the political system and the strength of national unity.
Voting is not only a right but also a civic responsibility. A ballot represents both an individual choice and the voter’s confidence in the country’s future. By choosing their representatives, citizens also contribute to strengthening national solidarity.
Regardless of their region, occupation or background, voters share the common goal of selecting candidates with the integrity and ability to represent the people’s will and aspirations.

Each ballot therefore represents more than the exercise of a citizen’s right. It reflects the people’s trust in their representatives and their choice of individuals with the courage, intellect and dedication needed to work alongside the people in building and defending the country in a new period.
Voters also have high expectations of National Assembly and People’s Council deputies. Those elected must genuinely represent the people, serve as a bridge between citizens and the State, voice public concerns and listen closely to voters’ aspirations.
They are also expected to contribute to institutional reform, improve the effectiveness of national governance and promote sustainable development. Their performance will be an important measure of democracy, discipline and accountability in Việt Nam’s socialist rule-of-law State.
As Việt Nam enters a new era of national development, deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–31 term will shoulder major responsibilities in helping realise the nation’s ambitions for breakthrough progress.
